Big Day for Nathan Wilkins at Tigers game

2019-06-08

Great start for Wilkins and the Minor Rookie AAA Legionaires in Windsor.

After a long drive through construction and traffic to Ontario's Border with Michigan, the Minor Rookie AAA Legionaires were chomping at the bit to get on the field. The first game of the Windsor Stars Kevin Siddall Memorial tournament did not disappoint.

The Legionaires offense was on fire as they throttled the North Toronto Athletics in their opening game with a final score of 17-2. Impressive defense led by team Gold Glove winner Carter Scott kept North Toronto in check all day. But it was Nathan Wilkins who had the day of his life.

Wilkins smashed 2 doubles and a long sac fly to cash in a run in the decisive victory and things only got better from there. The team took advantage of the location and attended a Major League game between the Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers. Upon entering the stadium, Tigers staff approached Nathan Wilkins and his family offering them the opportunity to be on the field before the game even started! Wilkins was given the honor of joining Tigers Manager Ron Gardenhire as he exchanged lineups and met with the umpires before the game got underway. Nathan's two sisters, Avery and Morgan, were on the field with both teams during the National Anthem to boot.

While the Tigers fell 6-3 to the Twins, Nathan Wilkins and his Legionaire teammates are riding high as they prepare for the rest of the weekend in Windsor; their next game against the Kitchener Panthers is June 8 at Little League diamond #2 in Windsor's Mic Mac Park.
